FAQs

Though every project has its specific process, this is the typical path we’ll take when we work together.

Preliminary Steps

Process 1You’ll start by requesting a project quote. I’ll send you an email within one business day confirming the scope of your project and your timeline. If you have additional questions, we can schedule a 15-minute phone consultation.

Otherwise, you’ll receive a custom proposal outlining your project scope, the timeline, and the terms and conditions for you to e-sign. Once the contract is signed and your 50% project fee deposit is paid, your spot in my project queue is officially confirmed.

Discovery Phase

Process 2This is where I get the goods that will help me create copy to meet your goals. It may consist of a mix of workbooks and custom questionnaires, phone or Skype intake sessions, and/or sending me any relevant background info or research. My goal during this phase is to clarify your unique selling proposition, and draw out the most compelling aspects of your brand. I’ll be asking you questions to hone the direction and tone of the project copy.

Project Execution

Process 3Most projects will include two rounds of revisions. I’ll deliver your content to you in this order: First Draft, Second Draft, and Final Version. (If you’re doing a full website project, your order is Navigation and Outline, First Draft, Second Draft, and Final Version.)

Your feedback is an important park of my writing process. You’ll have the opportunity to make any factual changes and comments about the tone or direction of the content. Your edits will be due according to our project timeline we’ve agreed on.

Final Delivery

Process 4You’ll receive a final version of your content that is copyedited and ready for immediate upload to your website or use for your creative project. Once you approve the final version, our project will be officially complete. You’ll receive an invoice for the balance of your project fees and an opportunity to share your feedback about working with me.

You’ve got questions. I’ve got answers.

How does payment work?
To reserve your spot, I’ll send you an invoice for 50% of the project fee. (Work only begins on my end when the deposit is paid.) The 50% balance is due upon delivery of your final content.

What forms of payment do you accept?
I accept personal checks, electronic payments via eCheck, PayPal, and Google Checkout, and all major credit cards.

How long will my project take?
That depends on the scope of work and your deadline. Typically, a 5-page website takes 6 weeks, and an about page or a sales page takes 4 weeks. Also, for the project you needed done like, yesterday, I do offer a 25% rush fee that can be added to your project total.

I need this project done ASAP.
If I can accommodate you into my current production schedule, I offer a 25% rush fee that can be added to your project total.

What’s your hourly rate?
I price by the project, not the hour. That way, I don’t get penalized for working quickly (which I do!) and you know exactly how much to budget for the project (no invoice surprises).

Will I get the opportunity to provide feedback?
Yes – this is an important part of my process. Most projects include two iterative revisions, which means you’ll get two opportunities to review the material and provide your feedback. “Iterative” refers to reviewing the current version as opposed to starting from scratch with a new concept.

I’m re-doing my website. Should I hire a designer or writer first?
Provided you’ve done some branding and business development work, your next step is to hire a writer. This allows your designer to incorporate the written elements of your brand, producing a cohesive, effective website. So, the order is: 1) branding, 2) copywriting, and 3) design.

I want someone to write my newsletters for me. Do you do that?
Yes! (And, building your email list is one of the most effective and low-cost marketing techniques. Bravo.) You can purchase newsletters in packages of 3. We’ll get on the phone or Skype to generate ideas and an outline, then I’m off and writing. I can also help with strategy, the initial set-up (including design!), and creating an auto-responder series.

I want someone to write my blog posts for me. Is that something you do?
Absolutely. You can purchase blog posts in packages of 3. Similar to writing newsletters, we’ll get on the phone or Skype to generate ideas and an outline, then I’m off and writing. I can also help with the overall blog strategy and generating a content marketing plan.
